my neighbor is probably going to kill me

i've spent the whole morning, listening to i've got your number and quando quando quando. what can i say. some days, you just need showtunes and standards to get you through.

i first heard "i've got your number," a gem composed by cy coleman and carolyn leigh, when i was on a treadmill at the ny sports club. it was during the late spring or early summer of this year and channel 2 was broadcasting the "broadway under the stars" concert. they announced that brian stokes mitchell would be performing, and i heart him, so i decided to stay tuned during my run. and this guy, cheyenne jackson came on. (i had heard he was the star of "all shook up" and even though i read the great reviews, and heard priscilla presley rave about his performance, i hadn't considered checking it out...i tend not to like elvis covers...) so he comes on stage, this handsome fella with groovy eyebrows and pretty blue eyes, and he starts teasing the audience with his rendition of "i've got your number." and i was just wowed. his voice is hot--broadway hot, but hot nonetheless. the song is jazzy, lyrics are sassy and witty--the crowd was going bonkers for his performance--and i was so thoroughly entertained, i think i giggled a few times during my run. afterwards, i became obsessed with seeing it again, getting my hands on a copy of the performance. i found his website, which cracks me up because he looks a lot like joey mcintyre (late of dancing with the stars, where he was criticized for being "too broadway") in the photo. but don't hold that against him! tee hee. anyway, it took a while for them to put the clip on the website, but they finally did. you can hear him belt out the tune for yourself, and how increasingly rowdy the crowd got as he shook his booty and did a little (modest) striptease.

"quando quando quando" (words & music by pat boone, toni renis, cesari elio, alberto testa & ervin drake) is a blast from the past for me--i remember the engelbert humperdinck version! heh heh...and i haven't heard it since i was a kid! but when we were in martha's vineyard, the little shopping village near our bed and breakfast had michael buble's new record on all weekend long, and i remember hearing his version of quando quando quando (a duet with nelly furtado) for the first time while we were plumbing the treasures at portobello road (one of my new favorite stores) . now, when i hear it, i'm reminded of that wonderful weekend. and nelly furtado's voice has never sounded sweeter.
